If you haven't heard the word yet, now through August 15th, the State of Illinois is issuing a 5 percent discount for school supplies and related school items. The discount will be taken from the state portion of the sales tax. This tax break is only available for select items and only through August 15th. Yes, you still pay a county and city tax, but you get a 5% discount, which does make a difference! AND...it's not just school supplies...it includes "accessories" like clothing, shoes, etc...
Just finished getting all the supplies...definitely saved $$ but would have bought outside of Cook County if I had realized early enough that we still had to pay the city and county taxes...still, for some of the supplies we hit up Walgrees and on a $57 bill we only paid $2.41 in taxes!! That's a deal!
Online shopping is another option for those who hate searching for items...here's some good ideas:
