I'm sure I haven't said it enough, but I am SOOOOO thankful for my friends with children already in high school! After experiencing the hectic Open House last night for my 8th grade son, I can honestly admit I would never know how to make it through the maze of hallways at my alma mater.
The more things change, the more they stay the same...but not at Sandburg! If manuevering your way down the halls--trying to find the East Building from the Commons, from the Gold Gym--wasn't enough of a challenge, trying to sort through the issues of going with Honors vs. Academic is another! Is taking ALL honors a smart thing? a courageous thing? a crazy thing? And while I appreciate the weighted system for honors, is it really worth it to get a "B" in an honors, when it appears the Big Ten Colleges just balance it all out in a 4.0 scale in the end? But then how do you take "AP" classes?? WOW! Who is to know if we are setting our kids up for more challenges and potential roadblocks in four years? It is almost too much to consider...and I thought choosing college was going to be tough.
At least I knew exactly where the Eagle Gym was...and oh the memories that flooded back from that basketball court! If anything last night had my mind in a jumble, being in the Eagle Gym was extremely comforting...I finally knew where I was.
