Another girlfriend of mine has turned 40.
And there are only two more left...
When we were in our 20's, we bar hopped...in our 30's, we did pub crawls (unable to "hop" as much), and in our 40's, we celebrate with a girls' night at one of our houses--sleep over and all! As the number of gals in the 40s increases, we've learned to mellow and simply enjoy each other's company. We create fabulous drinks, alternating water in between. We cater from a wonderful restaurant, imitating a wonderful island feast. We invite our favorite nail gals over to do mani's & pedi's for everyone. And we stay up talking and watching movies all night long! Sounds like a 12 year old sleep over (except for the fabulous drinks!).
We realize very quickly why we do this in one of our homes...we just don't fit the "girls' night out" demographic any longer. We are officially ladies who lunch...gals who vacation...women who want it all, or at least all that we can afford for the time being.
My girlfriends are my link to my inner soul--so much differently than my family. My husband and boys remind me that I am a valuable woman around the house--I am the mom, the wife, the one who takes care of everyone and everything. My girlfriends remind me that I am a woman, I can be silly and I appreciate the irreverent. We appreciate each other in a way that men and boys can never understand...and I'm not even sure that I completely understand. But one thing I do know...I don't know what I'd do without my girlfriends.
As we complete our birthday celebration of yet another inductee into the Fabulous 40's Club, we are reminded that our annual Girls' Weekend is just two months away! Another opportunity to enjoy the Celebration of Us!
